Scent of the Month - January

We recently purchased Penhaligon's Scent Library, and loved how completely different all of the fragrances are from each other. We wanted to pull together an outfit each month to represent each of the scents. First is Opus 1870, which is described as: a complex and elegant woody chypre. Opening with a luxurious accord of sweet citrus and fiery black pepper, the heart is lit by the delicacy of English Clove Rose and evocative incense. The base notes are glorious, smoky waves of aromatic cedarwood and sandalwood. Opus 1870 is wonderfully warm and comforting, a fragrance to wrap yourself in on cold winter nights.

With that in mind, here's what we would wear, in addition to Opus 1870.

Recipe - Olive Oil & Buttermilk Blueberry Muffins

This recipe makes a healthier-than-average, moist, not-too-sweet blueberry muffin.

Ingredients:

1/2 cup olive oil
1/2 cup buttermilk
2 large eggs
1 cup unbleached flour
1 cups whole wheat flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 cup + 2 tsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 1/2 cups blueberries (fresh or frozen)

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

Combine the oil and buttermilk, then beat in the eggs. Gradually add 1/2 cup of sugar, flour, baking powder, and salt. Once well mixed, add the blueberries and stir until they're well dispersed in the batter.

Grease a regular 12 muffin tin with olive oil, and divide the batter evenly into it, then sprinkle the remaining teaspoons of sugar on the top. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a cake tester comes out clean.

Favorite Hikes - Tennessee Valley

This relatively flat trail takes you to the beach and then loops back to the parking lot.
To get there, take the Mill Valley/Highway 1 exit, and then turn left onto Tennessee
Valley Road. Drive all the way to the end, and you'll find a parking lot at the
trailhead. The hike takes about an hour.

Recipe - Faraway Collins Cocktail

Inspired by the Faraway Collins at the Coburg Bar in the Connaught Hotel in London.

Ingredients:
1 1/2 oz. Bombay Sapphire Gin
1/2 oz. Sarsaparilla infused Soda
(if you don't have time to make your own, try this)
1/2 oz. Fresh Yuzu Juice
(or try this if fresh juice can't be found)
1/2 oz. Eucalyptus infused Simple Syrup
(easy to make, recipe here)

Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker and serve over ice, in a highball.

Mad Men Season 6 Photos Released

One of our favorite shows, both for fashion and writing, Mad Men is returning for its sixth season with a two hour premiere on Sunday, April 7th.
