Can't Wait For: Hockney

Already out in limited release, we can't wait to see this documentary about the incredible British artist, David Hockney.  Told in his own words and with access to his studio, this film charts his career, including the influence California - especially LA - has had in his work.

Find more details and a theater to see it here.

Can't Wait For: Knight of Cups

We love Terrence Malick's sweeping films exploring existence and what it means to be human, and we were especially excited when we saw the trailer for his latest film: Knight of Cups. Set in Los Angeles, it follows a screenwriter played by Christian Bale, and is divided into chapters based on different tarot cards. It is supposed to be one of Malick's most experimental films yet, and we look forward to seeing how filming in our favorite southern California city impacts the storyline.

In select theaters Friday, including Arclight Hollywood and the Landmark in LA. It expands into more cities on the 11th, including Embarcadero Cinema in San Francisco.

Can't Wait For: Peggy Guggenheim Art Addict

We have been obsessed with Peggy Guggenheim, the American heiress and art collector, ever since we first visited her museum in Venice over a decade ago.  She was an incredible and visionary woman with a complicated personal life, who amassed an unbelievable collection of art and became a powerful player in that world.  We loved the Diana Vreeland documentary, The Eye Has to Travel, and are excited to see the Guggenheim documentary, Art Addict, by the same director.  The film has been all over the festival circuit, and is set to be released in independent theaters over the next few weeks.

Can't Wait For: The Man From U.N.C.L.E.

We can't wait for Guy Ritchie's latest film, The Man from U.N.C.L.E
We've been fans of his work since Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
and this one looks to share his trademark sense of humor and fun.
Set in the sixties, the costumes are very sharp.

We'll be heading to Kabuki this weekend, can't wait to see what signature cocktail they create to pair with this film.

Can't Wait for: Lilly Pulitzer for Target

This Sunday, April 19th, brings Lilly Pulitzer's fabulous, Palm Beach-chic prints to our favorite affordable retailer, Target.  We can't wait for the summery pieces - especially the dresses, jumpsuits, and shoes - which should spruce up our warm weather wardrobes, as well as the home products.

Here is a selection of the pieces we're most excited to get our hands on, as well as their newly released commercial, featuring Alek Wek, Mr. Big, and a party we'd love to be invited to.

Can't Wait For: The Final Episodes of Mad Men

The second half of Mad Men's final season doesn't air until April 5th, but AMC has released several images to get us excited...  Megan is featured, which might be a surprise, and all of the cast members have definitely moved into a new era in fashion.  We love Betty's soft maxi dress, and Don looks dapper as always... Megan and Sally's ensembles, however, aren't our favorite looks from the time - the baby doll dress and aggressive crop top are best left in the past.  Pete, Peggy, Roger, and Joan are all looking sharp and stylish.  We can't wait to see how the rest of the characters have evolved, what other fashion costume designer Janie Bryant has come up with, and how creator Matthew Weiner will end the series.

Can't Wait For: Alexander Wang for H&M

There are so many high-low designer collaborations these days, it's hard to know when to get excited for them and when to pass them up - Altuzarra for Target, anyone?  Often, the attempts at translating high fashion to affordable prices fail, with many pieces looking cheap and of poor quality.  But we think the Alexander Wang line for H&M might actually be worth shopping - the man knows how to cut a t-shirt and when to keep pieces simple, and already frequently works with cotton and jersey fabrics, as well as solids and minimal embellishments.  Sadly these designs aren't the cheapest collaboration around, but if these photographs of the upcoming collection are any indication, we are excited to shop when the line comes out on November 6th.

Can't Wait For: Halt and Catch Fire

We have high hopes that the new AMC series, Halt and Catch Fire, will fill the Sunday night void left by Mad Men when the first half of its final season concludes at the end of the month.  Halt and Catch Fire, which premieres June 1st, is set in Dallas' 'Silicon Prairie' in the 1980s, and follows a salesman and computer engineer building a business together at the dawn of the PC age.  We love the energy of the preview, and can't wait to make this our new summer show.

Can't Wait For: Isabel Marant for H&M

There are so many high-low designer collaborations these days that it's hard to get too excited about all of them.  But ever since we heard that Isabel Marant was doing a line for H&M, we have been hoping that this is one we could be genuinely in love with.  Now that early reviews are out, all signs point to yes, we can.  The quality is said to be a step up from the typical collabs, which often use cheaper fabrics and trimmings to cut corners, and the collection is extensive and full of beautiful, signature pieces.  Now we just have to wait until November 14th to snag our new fall wardrobes.

Can't Wait For: Wes Anderson's The Grand Budapest Hotel

We love Wes Anderson - his style, eye for aesthetic detail, and casting choices are like those of no other director working today.  We can't wait to see his next film, The Grand Budapest Hotel, starring Ralph Fiennes ...  Sadly it won't be released until March 7th of next year, but in the meantime, we will be watching this newly released trailer, and some of our other Anderson favorites.

Can't wait for: The Great Gatsby

We are eagerly anticipating the release of Baz Luhrman's The Great Gatsby, and if the soundtrack (created with Jay-Z) is any indication, it's going to be fantastic. Interscope released a preview:

The track listing features an amazing line-up with many of our favorite musicians.
1. Bang Bang - will.i.am
2. A Little Party Never Killed Nobody (All We Got) - Fergie, Q Tip & GoonRock
3. Young And Beautiful - Lana Del Rey
4. Love Is The Drug - Bryan Ferry with The Bryan Ferry Orchestra
5. Over The Love - Florence & The Machine
6. Where The Wind Blows - Coco O. of Quadron
7. Crazy in Love - Emeli Sandé and The Bryan Ferry Orchestra
8. Together - The xx
9. Hearts A Mess - Gotye
10. Love Is Blindness - Jack White
11. Into the Past - Nero

We're still listening to the Romeo + Juliet soundtrack, and this promises to be a new favorite as well. SoundCloud has a full version of Florence & the Machine's Over the Love and the full album will be released May 7th.
