The Great Beauty is a meditation on life and its meaning, through the story and eyes of a Roman socialite and journalist named Jep Gambardella. Jep has never married or had children (that we know of) and has spent most of his sixty-five-years mingling in the upper echelons of Roman society, living for debauchery and drinks and parties and women. Despite how outwardly shallow he seems, Jep has a deep understanding of other people, their motivations and desires, and what life is to him - there is beauty in many moments, and wonder can be found between all of the hardships and trials.
