Vertigo, often considered one of Alfred Hitchcock's best films, is set in San Francisco, and the director used the city to full effect by shooting on location. It became another character in the 1958 thriller, starring Jimmy Stewart, Kim Novak, and Barbara Bel Geddes. The film has a brightness to it despite its dark storyline, and this was especially apparent in the costumes. Hitchcock worked with costume designer Edith Head to select colors that would heighten the viewers' emotions, and they did a brilliant job.
