What We're Talking About This Week

Few things in life are better than ice cream, and we look forward to sampling all the varieties LA has to offer using this handy Los Angeles Times list as our guide.

With the weather turning toward the colder seasons, we love the thought of relaxing in one of these warm hot springs on our next vacation.

It's almost October, and Oktoberfest by the Bay is happening a few days early.  Be sure to get tickets in advance for beer, German food, and plenty of polka music in San Francisco.

As true California girls, recycling has always been part of our day to day.  But with new plastics and packaging, plus changing policies, sometimes it's hard to know what we can't and can't put in the bin.  This printable list lays it all out for you.

This Sunday is Venice's annual Abbot Kinney Festival.  We love this street fair for the music, shopping, food, and easy beach access!

Foodie Favorite: Gjusta

If you live in Los Angeles and work anywhere near Venice Beach, we recommend heading to Gjusta for lunch. From the same co-owners who run Gjelina (which we also love), it features breads baked on site, charcuterie, cheese, salads, pastries and fresh juices.

Everything is on display in really fantastic glass cases, grouped as little individual shops.

Grab a little of everything and head to the beach for a lunchtime picnic. We got a caprese sandwich, blondie, herbed goat cheese, salad and sparkling limeade. You can view their menu here, and preorder to save time.

Favorite Beaches: Venice Beach

Venice Beach is world famous for its year round good weather and position at the west end of Los Angeles County.  The town of Venice is artsier and grittier than many other LA beach cities, and it's been featured in countless movies and television shows, which brings a good amount of tourists and crowds.  Still, it's a great beach to walk on, or just to sit on to watch the sunset.

Foodie Favorite: Gjelina's Non-Traditional Charcuterie Plate

As summer winds down, we have to get back to Gjelina to eat one of our favorite seasonal dishes there, the charcuterie plate featuring grilled peaches, burrata, prosciutto, arugula, and radicchio.  The dish is the perfect medley of sweet, salty, savory, bitter, and spicy, and is a wonderful starter for their pizzas or entrees, or an excellent part of a dinner of small plates.  We find it tastes best when eaten in the beautiful back garden by candlelight...

Fashion Inspiration: Venice Beach Bum Weekend

Inspiration: Local Alessandra Ambrosio always gets laid back Venice Beach style just right, with her floaty tops, leggy looks, and cute sandals. Venice is all about looking cool, but never trying too hard.
