Comfort Me With Apples is the second in a series of former food critic Ruth Reichl's memoirs, and one of our favorites for her stories of living in 1970s Berkeley and 1980s Los Angeles. It's a wonderful book for foodies, as Reichl chronicles the evolution of West Coast cuisine from her firsthand point of view. From the co-op friendly Bay Area that brought us Alice Waters, to the decadence of Southern California which spawned Wolfgang Puck, Reichl was there through it all. She truly loves food, is a beautiful writer, and has lived a life we are more than a bit envious of.
